The air traffic controllers of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced on Tuesday evening that they would continue to work as normal, 24 hours a day, to “enable the implementation of the points agreed upon” in order to resolve the sector’s problems, notably those linked to staff shortages.

On the 24th of August, air traffic controllers declared that they would only work 13 hours a day as of September 5 due to a severe shortage of controllers.

The air traffic controllers are also demanding the publication of the hiring decree for winners of the 2018 Civil Service Council exams for assistant air traffic controller positions. This item should be on the agenda of the next Council of Ministers at the request of the Caretaker Minister of Public Works, Ali Hamieh. They are also calling for the training of assistant controllers to be sped up, and for the services of retired air traffic controllers to be used on a temporary basis until training is completed.
