Acting Head of General Security Elias al-Baissari pointed out that “challenges are increasing by the day, with the refugee crisis taking center stage.”

“This issue must be addressed in accordance with an operational plan and in coordination with the Syrian government and the international community,” he added.

Baissari made a statement during a celebration at the General Security headquarters held in the presence of Caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities Bassam Mawlawi. “We are following up on the situation of Syrian refugees, especially in terms of their resettlement in a third country, because Lebanon is a transit country, not a country of asylum,” he declared.

He also called for “handing over specific data on displaced persons without any prior conditions.”

Meanwhile, he reassured the Lebanese people that “there are enough passports for everyone, and that there is no need to rush.”
