On Thursday, caretaker Education Minister Abbas Halabi requested that private schools delay the start of the school year in light of the security situation worsened by large-scale Israeli strikes.
Halabi stated that there should be no haste to begin the school year “so that there is no significant difference between the start of the school year between private and public schools.”
He also confirmed that the number of displaced people in schools has risen to about 68,000 individuals, further adding that “the number of displaced individuals or shelters is probably going to rise.”
In addition, Halabi emphasized that the Ministry of Education accounts for the majority of the shelters that the government has agreed on.
Father Youssef Nasr, the Secretary General of Catholic Schools, revealed in an interview with This Is Beirut that he will meet with the minister of education on Saturday. He stated that “after this meeting, it will be clear whether Catholic schools will open their doors on Monday, September 30, or if they will postpone their classes along with public schools.”
On Wednesday, the General Secretariat of Catholic Schools requested school principals and administrative bodies “to begin preparations starting Thursday, September 26, for a possible resumption of classes next Monday, September 30.”
