MP Michel Moawad, member of the Renewal Bloc (Tajaddod), accused Hezbollah of “dragging Lebanon into a war which is not ours, but the war of others on our land.”

In a press conference for the Renewal Bloc held on Friday, he affirmed that this war “is not defensive and was not decided by the Lebanese people through constitutional institutions.”

Moawad urged the Lebanese army to “take immediate and decisive action regarding the infiltration of fighters among the displaced persons who have left their villages to seek refuge in other regions,” as this poses “a danger to the hosting areas.”

The Tajaddod MP stated that “the Lebanese are the ones paying the price of this war, which has so far cost us billions of dollars at a time when our state is unable to secure the most basic needs.”

Blaming the pro-Iranian faction, Moawad held Hezbollah responsible for dragging the country into this war, which he described as a “suicidal operation.”

He also called on the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, to convene a session for the election of a President of the Republic (a vacant position since October 2022). “We must seize the international community’s pressure on Israel to achieve a ceasefire before we are left entirely on our own,” he emphasized. “This practically requires dissociating Gaza from Lebanon, ceasing to serve the Iranian agenda, and implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701,” he continued.

Moawad also reaffirmed the need to “restrict weapons and strategic decisions to the Lebanese state and its legitimate institutions in accordance with the Taif Accord and Resolution 1559.”
